This week, The Today Show speculated that moms across the country are paying more attention to their children’s manners because of the Obamas. “Today’s parents are making a shift towards more traditional etiquette, primarily influenced by the First Lady, Michelle Obama.” The segment explained that a recent survey of moms revealed that 81% of them felt it was more important than ever to teach their children good manners.
So what is it about the Obama girls that has moms everywhere watching their own children more closely? For one, they are incredibly poised and well behaved. Take the inauguration for example. The girls stood quietly and smiled politely but still acted like children. (Who could forget the thumbs up Sasha flashed her father on the big day?) Secondly, they seem to be adjusting well to all of the changes taking place in their lives. A new school, big move, and a new job for dad, all seem to be taken in stride by the girls.
